Standard Work Permit

Work for the approved Bermuda employer and role for a permit of one to five years.

The employer advertises the vacancy in a local newspaper and on the Government job board for at least eight days and considers qualified Bermudian and other priority applicants.

The employer submits the online application and signed contract; closed occupation categories cannot use a Standard Work Permit, and work may not begin before formal approval.

Language: Sufficient English or another official language of the territory.
Time away: BOTC naturalisation requires five lawful years, no more than 450 days away and 90 days in the final year, and freedom from immigration time limits throughout the final year. An ordinary worker reaches that settled condition only through a separate PRC option. A new BOTC may then register as a British citizen; Bermudian status is separate.
Two passports: Yes. You keep your U.S. citizenship.

A Standard Work Permit lasts one to five years and renewals can build ordinary residence, but the general PRC threshold is 20 years before BOTC naturalisation becomes realistic.
How long the decision takes isn’t published; we allow a year.

Time you must spend there: The program sets no minimum number of days. Renewal still expects it to be your home.
