Steady monthly income, from any source?

Not legal advice.

2

What it takes.

Income
At least $1,650 a month, steady and documented.
Time
2–4 weeks for visa approval once the bank-balance and insurance documents are ready.
Cost
About $150–300 in visa fees and required international health insurance.
The hard part
The eligibility limit to specific nationality groups (Europe, North America, CPLP, ECOWAS) shuts out many families outright.

Dollar figures are converted from the local currency at the rate the program’s research used; the official figure is in the local currency.

This visa doesn’t lead to a passport.

  1. 2027
    First residence permit

0.5 years, renewable for 0.5 years at a time.

  2. 2028
    Renew the permit

Filed before the old one lapses; renews for 0.5 years.

Time away
At least five years of legal residence in Cabo Verde; since the 2023 law, time spent there illegally does not count. The law sets no day count for absences.
Two passports
Yes. You keep your U.S. citizenship.
  • Time on this program does not count toward permanent residence or citizenship; the family would need to switch to one that does.
  • A six-month visa renewable once, a year at most; it is a temporary visa, not a residence permit, so it does not start the five-year clock.

Living there.

Time you must spend there
The visa is a fixed term (6 months, renewable once), not a days-per-year requirement.
Tax
A stay this short generally falls below Cape Verde’s tax-residence threshold, so foreign remote income is typically untouched.

We never file a tax return. We tell you what applies and brief the professional who does.
