    First residence permit

    0.25 years, renewable for 0.25 years at a time.

  2. 2028
    Renew the permit

    Filed before the old one lapses; renews for 0.25 years.

Language
No named language exam; the Nationality Code instead asks the applicant to prove assimilation into the Algerian community.
Time away
At least seven consecutive years of habitual and lawful residence by the filing date, and residence in Algeria when the naturalisation decree is signed.

Yes. You keep your U.S. citizenship.
  • Time on this program does not count toward permanent residence or citizenship; the family would need to switch to one that does.
  • The Foreign Ministry caps visa-authorized presence at 90 days per entry and 180 days a year; a separate residence card is needed to start the seven-year naturalisation clock.
