Work for the approved job and employer for the contract period, with an overall work-permit limit of four years.

Who qualifies

The vacancy must be advertised in the Falklands for at least seven days; the applicant normally files from outside the Islands unless already in a qualifying permit class.

What it takes.

Time: Processing starts after the authority accepts a complete file; travel and work begin only after the required permission issues.
Cost: Check current government visa, permit and document fees before filing.
The hard part: Remote filing, local recruitment and medical/police checks.

Language: English sufficient to meet the British Overseas Territories citizenship requirement.
Time away: The British Nationality Act option is naturalisation as a British Overseas Territories citizen: be present in the territory 5 years before filing, spend no more than 450 days away in those 5 years and 90 in the final year, and be free of any time limit on stay for the final 12 months. A new BOTC connected with a qualifying territory can then register as a British citizen.
Two passports: Yes. You keep your U.S. citizenship.

A work permit may be issued for up to 2 years and renewed; lawful residence can build the 5-year BOTC naturalisation period, but the applicant must first become free of immigration time limits.
How long the decision takes isn’t published; we allow a year.
