Who qualifies

The role must qualify under Guernsey’s Employment Permit Policy; long-term permits are initially valid three years and tied to a named employer and job.

Time: Processing starts after the authority accepts a complete file; travel and work begin only after the required permission issues.

Indefinite leave to remain after 5 years on a qualifying long-term option, with English at B1 and the Life in the UK and Islands test.

The decision usually takes 12 months.

Language: English speaking and listening at B1.
Civics: The Life in the UK and Islands test.
Time away: British nationality law applies in the Islands: normally 5 years in the UK, Jersey, Guernsey or Isle of Man, settlement for the final 12 months, no more than 450 days away in those 5 years and 90 in the final year.
Two passports: Yes. You keep your U.S. citizenship.
