Time away
For an alien, the final 12 months must be spent residing in Guyana without interruption, plus at least 5 years in total during the 7 years before that final year. The Minister may relax the periods in special circumstances. The Act also requires good character and an intention to continue living in Guyana.
Two passports
It depends on the rules at the time and on your home country.
  • The Ministry publishes a 3-year extension term but no separate initial term, so the road uses that published renewable term; the citizenship statute counts residence rather than a named permit class, so actual student residence can build the naturalisation period.
  • How long the decision takes isn’t published; we allow a year.
  • Whether you can keep your current citizenship depends on the rules at the time and your home country.
