Second Home Visa

A 5-year or 10-year multiple-entry stay permit (KITAS) for the applicant and dependants; does not grant the right to work for an Indonesian employer.

Who qualifies

A deposit of IDR 2,000,000,000 (about USD 130,000, depending on the exchange rate) placed in the applicant’s own name at a state-owned Indonesian bank — BNI, BRI, or Mandiri — and maintained for the life of the permit.

What it takes.

Investment: About $130,000.
Time: 1–3 months to arrange the bank deposit and documentation; processing itself is 1–2 weeks once the deposit certificate is in hand.
Cost: About IDR 7,000,000 (roughly $450) in government fees plus typical agent fees of $1,500–5,000; the $130,000 deposit is capital, not a fee, and is returnable.
The hard part: Sourcing and parking $130,000 of real capital in a state bank account in your own name and keeping it there for the life of the permit.

Permanent residence
Switch the limited stay permit (ITAS) to a permanent one (ITAP) after three consecutive years in Indonesia. Workers, investors, clergy, retirees over 60, family reunion and second-home ITAS holders are on the list of those who may switch; an integration statement is required.

With a language test and a civics test.

Language: Able to speak Indonesian.
Civics: Acknowledge the state ideology Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution; no written test is set in the law.
Time away: Living in Indonesia for at least 5 consecutive years, or 10 years in total, at the time of applying. Applicants also need steady work or income and pay a naturalisation fee.
Two passports: Usually not: new citizens are asked to give up their other citizenship.

Second-home holders are on the list allowed to switch to a permanent stay permit (ITAP); citizenship needs five years living there, Indonesian and giving up your old citizenship, and whether the three-year wait applies to second-home holders is not spelled out.
How long the decision takes isn’t published; we allow a year.
