Foreign worker permit and employment card

Work permission for the approved employment for up to one year, limited by the worker’s separate residence permission. It is not an entry visa or residence permit.

Who qualifies

You keep your U.S. citizenship.

1

Does it fit your family?

One question, from the program’s own rules.

Do you have a binding job offer in that country?

Not legal advice.

2

What it takes.

Time
The employer completes its foreign-worker quota and the worker’s lawful entry and residence before the annual work permit is issued.
Cost
The employer pays the annual work-permit charge through the Labour Ministry’s foreign-worker system; entry and residence charges are separate.
The hard part
Securing the employer’s foreign-worker quota, lawful entry and residence before the work-permit filing.
3

This visa doesn’t lead to a passport.

  1. 2027
    First residence permit

1 year, renewable for 1 year at a time.

Language
Speak Khmer and read Khmer script.
Civics
Some knowledge of Khmer history, and evidence of living in harmony with Khmer society and customs.
Time away
Seven years of continuous residence counted from the date you receive a residence card under the immigration law, and living in Cambodia when you apply.
Two passports
Yes. You keep your U.S. citizenship.
  • Time on this program does not count toward permanent residence or citizenship; the family would need to switch to one that does.
  • The work permit depends on a separate residence permission and does not supply the immigration-law residence card that starts Cambodia’s naturalisation clock.

Living there.

Time you must spend there
The program sets no minimum number of days. Renewal still expects it to be your home.
Tax
Where you become tax resident follows the days you spend there and where your home is. We map it for your family before you move.

We never file a tax return. We tell you what applies and brief the professional who does.
