Salaried resident card

A ten-year resident card, renewable, for the approved job; it replaces the stay card. The labour inspectorate’s stamp on the contract and the foreign-worker card complete the right to work. Each family member takes their own stay card.

Who qualifies

For a stay exceeding three months, request a long-stay visa through the nearest Comorian diplomatic or consular mission for an Interior Minister and Council of Ministers decision; a stay card is issued after entry and renewed annually.

A written contract longer than three months must be stamped by the labour inspectorate at the employer’s request; the inspectorate has 30 days to answer, and silence counts as approval. A foreign worker’s fixed-term contract runs at most three years unless the Labour Minister allows more.

Visa and card fees are set by the annual finance law, and the resident card carries an annual duty for as long as it is valid. The visa issued on arrival at Moroni costs 15,000 Comorian francs (about €30).

Naturalisation requires ten years’ habitual residence before the application, five for a foreigner married to a Comorian or born in the Comoros. The code does not require giving up a prior nationality.

What it takes.

Time: The stay card is issued within ten days of entry. The labour inspectorate stamps the contract within 30 days. The resident card then waits for the next Council of Ministers decision.
Cost: The visa on arrival is 15,000 Comorian francs (about $35). Card fees are set each year by the finance law, and the resident card carries an annual duty.
The hard part: Three approvals in a row: the long-stay visa, the contract stamp and foreign-worker card, and the Council of Ministers’ resident-card decision.
