Who qualifies

Before a new work-permit application, advertise the role for at least 21 days on the WORC electronic Jobs Portal and in a locally printed newspaper, subject to an approved waiver.

A first-time holder granted a permit on or after 1 May 2026 is normally tied to the sponsoring employer for at least two years; changing earlier can trigger a one-year departure requirement.

What it takes.

Time: Processing starts after the authority accepts a complete application; work or study begins only after the required permission issues.
Cost: The authority assesses its filing charge under the fee schedule in force on submission, plus document costs.
The hard part: Completing Caymanian-priority recruitment and complying with the new employer-change restrictions.

Language: Sufficient English or another official language of the territory.
Time away: BOTC naturalisation requires five lawful years, at most 450 days away and at most 90 days away in the final year, with no immigration time limit throughout that final year. A worker normally needs permanent residence first. A new BOTC may then register as a British citizen; Caymanian status is a later, separate local status.
Two passports: Yes. You keep your U.S. citizenship.

Time counts if legal and ordinary, but the holder must qualify through Cayman’s points-based permanent-residence application at eight years before the term limit and then meet the BOTC settled-status rule.
