Study visa; extensions may be issued for up to one year under the government service procedure.

C9 requires a request from the authorized education body or a registered Kazakhstan educational institution.

The New York consulate lists C9 for US citizens with Ministry of Internal Affairs visa support, a passport valid three months beyond visa expiry and a completed application.

C9 study visa needs admission to a qualifying course; the course and your passport then decide it.

Time: The issuing authority decides the application after the complete sponsored file and prerequisite approvals are lodged.
Cost: Government charges are assessed under the issuing authority’s schedule; sponsor, translation and document costs are separate.
The hard part: Institution request and visa support before consular submission.

Language: Elementary Kazakh proven by certificate.
Civics: Pass the prescribed test on the Constitution and history of Kazakhstan.
Time away: Five continuous years of permanent residence at filing; the ordinary application period is up to six months.
Two passports: Usually not: new citizens are asked to give up their other citizenship.

Time on this program does not count toward permanent residence or citizenship; the family would need to switch to one that does.
C9 student residence does not start the five-year permanent-residence citizenship period.

Time you must spend there: The program sets no minimum number of days. Renewal still expects it to be your home.
