Time
The issuing authority decides the application after the complete sponsored file and prerequisite approvals are lodged.

Citizens by 2035.

If your first permit is issued in 2027 and you keep living there, this is the road.

    3 years, renewable for 3 years at a time.

    Renew the permit

    Filed before the old one lapses; renews for 3 years.

    Permanent residence

    Seven continuous years of legal ordinary residence immediately before applying, with Macao taken as the place of permanent residence; non-resident worker status is excluded.

A foreign national becomes eligible to apply only after obtaining Macao permanent-resident status, ordinarily after seven continuous years. Approval is discretionary and proof of every foreign nationality’s renunciation is due within six months after approval.

Usually not: new citizens are asked to give up their other citizenship.
  • Approved temporary residence can build the seven years for Macao permanent residence; Chinese naturalisation is a separate discretionary application afterward.
