Indefinite (permanent) residence in Malta from the outset, without a preceding temporary-permit stage.

Who qualifies

You keep your U.S. citizenship.

1

Does it fit your family?

One question, from the program’s own rules.

Savings you could move or invest?

Not legal advice.

2

What it takes.

Investment
About $411,000.
Time
4–6 months for approval-in-principle, then final certification once the property and contribution are in place.
Cost
About €99,000 (~$109,000) minimum in government contribution and admin fee alone, before property costs; add legal fees of $5,000–15,000.
The hard part
Committing the property purchase or rental within the required timeframe after approval-in-principle.

Dollar figures are converted from the local currency at the rate the program’s research used; the official figure is in the local currency.

The law behind these dates
4

Living there.

Time you must spend there
No minimum-stay requirement to keep permanent residence once granted.
Tax
MPRP holders are not automatically Maltese tax residents; tax residence still depends on actual days present and centre of life, and many MPRP holders never become tax resident.

We never file a tax return. We tell you what applies and brief the professional who does.
