Occupation Permit — Investor

A 10-year Occupation Permit as an investor, covering the applicant, spouse and dependent children, renewable if the business keeps meeting the criteria.

Who qualifies

You keep your U.S. citizenship.

1

Does it fit your family?

One question, from the program’s own rules.

Savings you could move or invest?

Not legal advice.

2

What it takes.

Investment
About $100,000.
Time
6–10 weeks once the investment is transferred and the company registered.
Cost
The $50,000+ investment plus company registration and legal fees of roughly $3,000–6,000.
The hard part
Hitting the MUR 5–8 million ongoing turnover bar at renewal, not just making the initial $100,000 transfer.

Dollar figures are converted from the local currency at the rate the program’s research used; the official figure is in the local currency.

Time away
The whole 12 months right before applying, plus at least 5 years in total during the 7 years before that. Holders of the spouse’s temporary residence permit are excluded.
Two passports
It depends on the rules at the time and on your home country.
  • A ten-year Occupation Permit renewed on turnover tests; permanent residence after five years. Investors of USD 500,000 or more may be naturalised after two years at the minister’s discretion.
  • How long the decision takes isn’t published; we allow a year.
  • Whether you can keep your current citizenship depends on the rules at the time and your home country.

Living there.

Time you must spend there
The program sets no minimum number of days. Renewal still expects it to be your home.
Tax
Mauritian tax residence (183+ days) brings a flat 15% rate on Mauritian-source and remitted foreign income, with no capital gains tax.

We never file a tax return. We tell you what applies and brief the professional who does.
