Who qualifies

The citizen charter asks for proof of age 60 or retirement, a US$20,000 bank balance, regular income of at least US$20,000 yearly, character certificate, home-embassy no-objection letter and hospital health certificate.

What it takes.

Time: Citizen charter says the visa can be issued the next day after Home Ministry approval; ministry review is additional.
Cost: US$700 for the first year and US$1,200 for renewal under the current citizen charter.
The hard part: Documenting retirement or age, US$20,000 in the bank and US$20,000 annual income, plus ministry approval.

This visa doesn’t lead to a passport.

Time on this program does not count toward permanent residence or citizenship; the family would need to switch to one that does.
