Study visa

A study visa for up to one year at a time, based on the study recommendation or program duration; family dependants may be documented separately.

Provide a Ministry of Education recommendation, original college or university admission, recent bank statement, online form, passport and latest Nepali visa copies.

Study visa needs admission to a qualifying course; the course and your passport then decide it.

Time: The citizen charter lists same-day processing for a complete study-visa file submitted before 1 p.m.; obtaining school and ministry documents is separate.
Cost: The citizen charter lists US$30 per month for degree study and US$75 per month for non-degree study, plus any re-entry charge.
The hard part: Admission, ministry recommendation and documented support funds.

Two passports: Usually not: new citizens are asked to give up their other citizenship.

Time on this program does not count toward permanent residence or citizenship; the family would need to switch to one that does.
Study residence does not create an ordinary citizenship option in Nepal.

The law behind these dates

Time you must spend there: The program sets no minimum number of days. Renewal still expects it to be your home.
