Does it fit your family?

4 questions, from the program’s own rules.

How old are you?

2

What it takes.

Savings
About $15,000.
Age
40 or older.
Time
1–3 months once the deposit is wired through an SRRV-accredited bank and medical and police clearances are in hand.
Cost
About $1,800–3,500: the $1,500 PRA application fee, $300 per dependant, roughly $300–600 for medical exams, police clearances and apostilles, and about $360 a year afterward for the family’s PRA membership. The deposit itself is refundable, not a cost.
The hard part
Getting the deposit inward-remitted through the correct PRA-accredited bank channel, and documenting a qualifying pension if you want the lower deposit tier.

Dollar figures are converted from the local currency at the rate the program’s research used; the official figure is in the local currency.

Citizens by 2038.

If your first permit is issued in 2027 and you keep living there, this is the road.

  1. 2027
    Permanent residence

From the start, with nothing to renew.

  2. 2037
    Apply for citizenship

    With a language test.

  3. 2038
    Citizenship
Language
Able to speak and write English or Spanish and one of the principal Philippine languages.
Time away
Ten years of continuous residence before the court hearing. A sworn declaration of intention must be filed one year before the petition, and school-age children must be enrolled in Philippine schools that teach Philippine history and civics for the whole period.
Two passports
Usually not: new citizens are asked to give up their other citizenship.
  • An indefinite visa kept alive by a yearly fee, not a fixed-term permit; the years are lawful residence, but citizenship needs ten years actually living in the Philippines, a court petition and giving up your old citizenship, which almost no retirees do.
  • How long the decision takes isn’t published; we allow a year.
  • This country asks new citizens to give up their other citizenship.

Living there.

Time you must spend there
The program sets no minimum number of days. Renewal still expects it to be your home.
Tax
The Philippines taxes resident aliens only on Philippine-source income, so a pension paid from abroad is not taxed here; staying more than 180 days a year makes you a resident alien for other purposes.

We never file a tax return. We tell you what applies and brief the professional who does.
