The work-permit form identifies the applicant’s nationality, local employer and work location; a prospective job and employer details are needed.

What it takes.

Time: Processing starts after the authority accepts a complete application; travel and work begin only after the required permission issues.
Cost: The authority assesses its filing charge under the fee schedule in force on submission, plus document costs.
The hard part: Coordinating the employer’s work-permit file with the separate residence permission.

After at least 5 years with lawful main residence in Suriname, a settlement permit may be refused only if lasting sufficient means are not reasonably assured or for serious public-order, national-security or public-health grounds. Temporary residence is issued for up to 2 years at a time. A settlement permit lapses when its holder establishes their main residence outside Suriname for more than a year.

Time away: The five years immediately before filing must be years in which Suriname was your domicile or main residence. The nationality law publishes no permitted-absence day count; keeping lawful residence and the registered main home in Suriname is what matters.
Two passports: It depends on the rules at the time and on your home country.

The employer’s work permit is not residence permission: the worker must separately hold a temporary residence permit, issued for up to 2 years, and those years of lawful main residence build both the 5-year settlement and naturalisation clocks.
How long the decision takes isn’t published; we allow a year.
Whether you can keep your current citizenship depends on the rules at the time and your home country.
