Employed-person work permit

Employment under the issued local permit for the approved role and period; immigration entry and residence must be checked separately.

Who qualifies

You keep your U.S. citizenship.

1

Does it fit your family?

One question, from the program’s own rules.

Do you have a binding job offer in that country?

Not legal advice.

2

What it takes.

Time
The government lists a 15-working-day work-permit service standard without labour clearance and 25 working days with it, after a complete application.
Cost
Published administration fee is at least US$150 or 10% of the permit fee, whichever is greater, plus labour-clearance and other applicable charges.
The hard part
Documenting Islander recruitment and assembling the employer’s zone-specific file.

Time away
BOTC naturalisation requires five lawful years, no more than 450 days away in all and 90 days in the final year, and settled status throughout the final 12 months. The work-permit option normally reaches that status only with a PRC after ten years. A new BOTC may then register as a British citizen.
Two passports
Yes. You keep your U.S. citizenship.
  • A skilled permit may run up to five years (unskilled up to three), and ten continuous permit years support a PRC application that removes the time limit needed for BOTC naturalisation.
  • How long the decision takes isn’t published; we allow a year.

Living there.

Time you must spend there
The program sets no minimum number of days. Renewal still expects it to be your home.
Tax
Where you become tax resident follows the days you spend there and where your home is. We map it for your family before you move.

We never file a tax return. We tell you what applies and brief the professional who does.
