The applicant must be age 18 or younger and have written school acceptance for the relevant year, paid fees and funding or sponsor evidence.

You keep your U.S. citizenship.

Student visa for age 18 or younger needs admission to a qualifying course; the course and your passport then decide it.

Time: The issuing authority decides the application after the complete sponsored file and prerequisite approvals are lodged.
Cost: Government charges are assessed under the issuing authority’s schedule; sponsor, translation and document costs are separate.
The hard part: School acceptance, financial sponsor evidence and the correct consular channel.

If your first permit is issued in 2027 and you keep living there, this is the road.

Language: Knowledge of the Tongan language.
Time away: Five years of residence, good character and an intention to keep residing in Tonga before a discretionary certificate of naturalisation.
Two passports: Yes. You keep your U.S. citizenship.

Lawful residence may contribute to the five-year period, but the visa ends when school eligibility ends and citizenship remains discretionary.
How long the decision takes isn’t published; we allow a year.
